What Kuro actually does

01Adaptive colour

A dark theme shaped around the page

Kuro maps page colours through an adaptive OKLCH engine instead of placing one blunt inversion over everything. It preserves visual hierarchy, protects photography and video, and repairs contrast while keeping the site recognisable.

  • Perceptual OKLCH colour mapping
  • Media-aware image and video handling
  • AA or AAA contrast policies

02Control surface

Every comfort control, close at hand

Tune brightness, contrast, warmth, palette, and rendering mode for the site in front of you. Switch among Adaptive, Filter, Matrix, and Static engines, save site-specific choices, or apply a temporary override to one tab.

  • Four rendering engines for difficult pages
  • Per-site, per-tab, and workspace profiles
  • Keyboard shortcuts for fast switching

Plans that understand the interface

Kuro builds a deterministic theme plan locally from the page's style structure, then remembers it in a bounded cache. If you explicitly opt in, OpenRouter, DeepSeek, or your own endpoint can refine a privacy-filtered style summary without receiving page text.

  • Local planning and cache are on by default
  • Remote planning is optional and consent-gated
  • Provider, model, endpoint, and design vision stay under your control

04Live pages

Keeps up with pages that never sit still

Single-page navigation, CSS-in-JS updates, open shadow roots, and virtualised interfaces are watched as they change. Kuro refreshes the affected styles before the page can settle back into a bright frame.

  • SPA and route-change awareness
  • Open shadow-root and adopted stylesheet coverage
  • Pre-paint replay from an exact-route cache

05Automation

A theme that follows your evening

Activate Kuro by clock time, system appearance, or sunrise and sunset from coordinates you enter. A gradual circadian warmth curve can soften the screen as daylight fades without changing the content itself.

  • Time, system-theme, location, and circadian modes
  • Custom activation and deactivation times
  • Adjustable peak warmth and ramp duration

Privacy · specifically

Not a policy summary. The actual behaviour.

Theme settings, site rules, provider keys, and generated plans stay in browser-managed storage on your device.

Kuro has no Selfhood account, backend analytics, advertising, telemetry, or cross-site tracking.

Optional remote planning is off by default and sends only a privacy-filtered style summary—not page text, form values, screenshots, or the raw DOM—to the provider you choose.

[ 05 ]Questions

Asked, answered

Its Adaptive engine rewrites colours in perceptual OKLCH space, respects page hierarchy, isolates media, and repairs contrast. Filter, Matrix, and Static engines remain available as predictable fallbacks for difficult sites.
