What happens when I save a window?

Shiori stores every tab's title, URL, and favicon as a group, then closes the tabs to free memory. Restore the group — or a single tab — anytime.

Is semantic search really local?

Yes. The embedding model is bundled with the extension and runs on your device. No page content or search queries leave your machine.

Do I need an API key?

Only for optional AI summaries and auto-grouping, which are off by default. Everything else — saving, search, folders, rules, export — works with no key and no account.

Can I get my data out?

Always. Export to Markdown, Notion, or an Obsidian vault, and take full JSON backups you can restore from later.
